A struggling young boy, Ramnath, faces a series of tragic events after his father's death, including his mother's passing and the loss of his leg. With his friend Mohan, a blind harmonica player, Ramnath uses his singing talent to earn money on the streets of Bombay. They befriend an ailing young girl, Manjula, and hope to gain financial support to allow Ramnath to attend school. However, their lives take a series of unexpected turns, including the death of Manjula, the rejection of Mohan by his sister Meena, and Ramnath's arrest for alleged involvement with a group of robbers.
