A sudden and violent disruption to a peaceful existence in the Arctic is caused by the arrival of a ruthless and intelligent stranger.

In the Canadian Arctic, a skilled hunter named Mala leads a happy life with his family, providing for them with his exceptional hunting abilities. His wife Aba urges him to trade with the white men for better goods, and Mala agrees, but things take a dark turn when the captain of the "floating house" rapes Aba, leading to her tragic death. Consumed by grief, Mala kills the captain and leaves his family to join the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where he is arrested and learns he may face execution.
