After the Civil War, the Overland Telegraph Company agrees to extend its line to Baxter Springs, with rancher Jim Kerrigan guaranteeing to pay for construction if it's not finished within two months. However, land promoter Burton Wheelock, who would lose money if the line is completed, hires ex-rustler Larry Foster, engaged to Jim's daughter Sandra, to sabotage the work.
