Frontier scout Jim Stockton leads a wagon train to Mexico-owned California, unaware that Mexico has declared war on the U.S. and formed an alliance with Chief Taztay. After fending off a Taztay attack, Jim duels Mexican Lieutenant Ruiz and wins, then discovers the war and joins forces to defend Monterey's garrison from General Torena's attack.
