Marathon Pictures' struggling star Billy Doran gets a second chance at fame when Tiny Barlow, a former child star, suggests remaking "Skippy" with Billy as the lead. Meanwhile, contract player Joan Winslow lands a role in the studio's big musical, thanks to Tiny's "influence." As Tiny uses Joan's publicity for his own gain, he finds himself falling in love with her and confesses his deception. However, his plans backfire when he conspires with Brenda's agent to replace Joan with the original actress, and he's left feeling guilty and heartbroken. With the production crew taunting him and his relationships in shambles, Tiny abandons the film, and his young friend Billy stows away in his car. Billy, determined to set things right, concocts a plan to rectify the situation.
