Three friends, Jonathan and his roommates, engage in a game of cat and mouse on the UCLA campus, using paintball guns. When they travel to Europe, Jonathan hopes to boost his social life, but things take a surprising turn when he meets Sasha, a young grad student from Czechoslovakia, who shows interest in him. She asks Jonathan to accompany her on a business trip to Berlin, where they enter East Berlin as a tourist couple.
