Arjun and his mother live in poverty in a Mumbai slum, where he attends college and hangs out with his friend Chabia. Despite his mother's wishes for him to get a stable job with the Railways, Arjun has his sights set on something more. He becomes smitten with a fellow student, Salma, and enrolls in acting classes to be closer to her. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he's accused of molestation and Chabia asks him to borrow money from his mother to make passports and relocate to Dubai. As tensions rise between India and Pakistan, Arjun prepares to ask his mother for a loan, but just as he's about to do so, Chabia's brother accuses him of stealing jewelry.
