A year after being stood up by his diving instructor, Jackson finds himself face to face with Sara again at her best friend's wedding on the island of Rodriguez. After a night together, Sara rushes to the wedding, but misses the ferry and barely makes the last airplane flight. When the pilot, Freddy, suffers a cardiac arrest and dies, Jackson convinces Sara to take the controls, despite the damaged equipment. As a storm hits, they struggle to stay afloat, and after a series of mishaps, they find themselves stranded on a sandbank with a shark lurking nearby, with little hope of rescue.
