After a successful start to their life together, a grocery store owner's sudden illness and death leaves his wife Ingeborg to fend for herself and their three children. Despite her efforts, she's forced to close the store due to the incompetent staff and is left with no choice but to move to the poorhouse, separating her from her children. Determined to reunite with her kids, Ingeborg sets out to find a way to escape her difficult circumstances.
