Mountain road racers Nakazato and Takahashi engage in a series of high-stakes "battles" to prove who is the best. However, an unexpected upset occurs when Nakazato is defeated by an old Toyota Trueno AE86, driven by an unlikely hero, Takumi Fujiwara, the son of a tofu shop owner. Takumi's unique driving skills are honed from daily deliveries, but his personal life is complicated by his father's drinking problem, his girlfriend's secrets, and his best friend's lack of driving talent. As Takumi faces off against rival teams, including the formidable Team Emperor, he must also confront his own limits and the consequences of his newfound fame.
