Jimmy Reardon, a small-time crime boss in Vancouver, faces various problems, including a junkie ex-wife, a loose cannon brother, and a theft at one of his grow-ops. He also knows he's being tailed, but doesn't know by whom. Meanwhile, Inspector Mary Spalding of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Organized Crime Unit is being recruited by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and wants to co-opt her intelligence network. When Jimmy gets hold of secret files on the OCU and Vancouver Police, he threatens to release them, leading Mary to propose a deal: she'll get the files back and intel from Jimmy in exchange for inside information on him. Initially, Jimmy declines, but changes his mind after an attempted abduction of his daughter. This leads to a mutually beneficial professional relationship between law and crime.
