A lone stranger, Joe Dakota, arrives in the small town of Arborville, California, seeking his old friend, the Old Indian, who he believes has not left town despite the townsfolk's claims. Joe's investigation leads him to an oil rig on the Old Indian's property, where he encounters a group of men who refuse to answer his questions about his friend's disappearance.
