Khaled, a teenager, lives with his struggling mother in a Toronto tenement. Despite facing bullying at school, Khaled and his mother, Monique, cling to each other as their only family. Monique's past experiences have taught Khaled to be wary of authority, and she's unable to provide for him properly. Khaled has grown up too fast, taking care of his mother and defending himself against bullies. After his mother's sudden passing, Khaled decides to hide the truth, taking on the responsibility of caring for himself amidst numerous obstacles.
