In the aftermath of World War II, a group of Auschwitz survivors, including Primo Levi, embark on an eight-month journey back to their homes. Sixty years later, a film crew retraces Levi's steps, using his words from "The Truce" to narrate his experiences. The journey takes them through war-torn Poland, nationalist Ukraine, communist Belarus, and abandoned Chernobyl, as well as poverty-stricken Moldavia, Romanian factories, and finally, to Munich and Turin.
