Limited Partnership is a love story between Richard Adams and Tony Sullivan, who became one of the first same-sex couples to be legally married in 1975. The couple applied for a green card for Tony based on their marriage, but received a denial letter from the Immigration and Naturalization Service citing that a "bona fide marital relationship cannot exist between two faggots." Outraged, the couple sued the U.S. government to prevent Tony's deportation, filing the first federal lawsuit seeking equal treatment for a same-sex marriage in U.S. history.
