Man of the World background

Man of the World

In the City of Love, a young American woman finds herself entangled in a passionate affair with a charismatic novelist, but her joy is short-lived as she uncovers his true intentions: to win the heart of her wealthy uncle.

Michael Trevor, a former newspaper man turned scandal sheet owner, poses as a novelist in Paris to make a living off wealthy Americans. He befriends coal baron Harold Taylor, who hires him to silence a scandalous story about his affair with a blonde. Michael and Taylor's charming niece, Mary Kendall, fall in love, but Michael's ex-girlfriend, Irene Harper, tries to convince him he'll never go straight and that marrying an ex-con would be unfair to Mary.
