A chance encounter in Venezuela sparks a fiery romance between a Texas oilman and a charming New York novelist amidst the backdrop of an oil derrick fire.

A Texas oilman visits Venezuela in the 1950s, where he meets friends who own oil derricks, one of which is on fire. The owners lack expertise in extinguishing oil derrick fires, putting 6000 other derricks at risk. The visiting oilman, Vic Scott, is an expert in oil derrick fires and agrees to help his friends, Miguel Orlando and his son Lago, put out the fire using an underwater controlled explosion.
