A desperate convict, Martin Stechert, takes a 12-year-old boy hostage after a prison break. The boy, also named Martin, is a quiet and obedient child who has experienced loneliness and frustration. Despite being a hostage, the boy begins to admire Stechert's rebellious nature and his determination to achieve his dreams. The two form an unlikely bond, and the boy chooses to stay with Stechert as they flee to his childhood home, a cabin on a lake. However, the police are hot on their heels, and a thrilling chase ensues.
