In the movie, Kitty O'Hara is a talented singer who refuses to use her voice for the theatre or radio. She works in a Broadway drug store with her grandfather, a former vaudeville performer, and her friend Johnny, a young writer of musicals. When Johnny's draft notice arrives, Kitty tries to help him by getting his show auditioned by a Broadway producer. However, the producer wants to buy the show without the young performers, leading to a betrayal that causes tension among the group.
