Marianne de Beaumaniour inherits a plantation in New Orleans and sets sail from Paris, accompanied by bondsmen bound for slavery. Aboard, she meets Charles, a charming man posing as a bondsman, who turns out to be the Duc de Villiers, a royal enemy. After discovering his true identity, Marianne sets him free and joins a police captain on a ship to Paris, but they're ambushed by pirates, led by Charles, and shipwrecked in a storm.
