The women demanded peace talks between the government and rebels, and when talks stalled, they staged a sit-in, blocking doors and windows until a resolution was signed. The UN peacekeepers moved in, and the Liberian president was exiled. The women then worked to ensure disarmament and forgiveness, ultimately achieving a democratic election and the election of the country's first female president.
