Peter and Rita, a couple from different backgrounds, fall in love despite their contrasting outlooks. Peter, who had a difficult childhood, is optimistic and full of wonder, while Rita, from an upper-middle-class family, is scared of life and struggles to express her socialist views to her conservative parents. After a whirlwind romance, they get married, but Peter realizes during their honeymoon that Rita's soul is not in her body. He believes the soul belongs to an old man who crashed their wedding, and upon meeting him again, the old man confirms this. Peter must navigate a fantastical situation to switch the souls back into their rightful bodies, learning that time is of the essence as he uncovers the old man's story.
