Matt Rutherford, a troubled youth, turned his life around after an epiphany in a cell at age 17. He attended a special high school for troubled youth, developed a passion for sailing, and eventually bought and restored his own boats. In 2008, he embarked on a solo voyage across the Atlantic, and in 2011, he became the only person to sail solo and nonstop around the Americas, a 27,000-mile journey.
