In the early years of WWII, Michele de la Becque, a Parisian socialite, sees the war as a mere inconvenience to her life, but as the Nazis invade France, she begins to view the war differently. She becomes disillusioned with the French who collaborate with the Nazis for personal gain and is shocked to learn that her fiancé, Robert Cortot, has become a Nazi collaborator. Michele must find a way to survive without her wealth or Robert's support and finds herself falling in love with a downed RAF pilot, Pat Talbot, who is hiding from the Nazis.
