Johnny Tracy, a rising racing star, is torn between his passion for racing and his desire to marry his sweetheart, Marcy Parker. Despite Marcy's initial reservations, Johnny convinces her to marry him on the condition that he'll retire from racing after the Indianapolis 500. However, a qualifying accident forces Johnny to reevaluate his priorities and seek a new career as a spark plug salesman. Despite his struggles, Marcy's change of heart inspires Johnny to qualify for the 500, where he faces off against real-life racing legends Johnnie Parsons, Duke Nalon, Manuel Ayulo, and Henry Banks.
