In the aftermath of the Revolutionary War, an indentured servant named Lamas makes a remarkable ascent to power in Georgia, eventually securing a position of authority.

The film tells the story of Dr. Carlos Morales, a man of humble beginnings who is raised and educated by General Darby and becomes the legal executor of his Georgia estate after his death. However, his position is threatened by Nancy Darby, who tries to overturn the will and block Darby's plan to establish free medical clinics for the poor, led by Carlos. Unbeknownst to Nancy, her fiancé Harvey Bristol and his father Dr. Bristol are secretly exploiting the Darby estate. The story unfolds amidst a backdrop of a plague that hits Savannah, adding to the turmoil.
