Santa's sleigh is stuck in the sand on a Florida beach just before Christmas Eve. To free it, he summons local children who bring various animals to help. Despite their efforts, nothing works and the kids fear they won't receive gifts. To lift their spirits, Santa tells them the story of Thumbellina, a tiny girl who finds refuge in an underground mole home. She rejects the advances of a loving mole and returns to the forest, leaving her saviors heartbroken. Just as Santa finishes his story, a fire engine arrives, driven by the "Ice Cream Bunny", who comes to the rescue.
