In the small, struggling coastal village of Ste-Marie-La-Mauderne, Québec, the once-thriving fishing industry has dwindled, leaving most residents on welfare. Germain Lesage refuses to leave, despite his wife's desire to move to the city for job opportunities. The town's mayor, Réal Fournier, tries to lure industry to the town, but faces a catch-22: the lack of a doctor is a major deterrent for potential investors. Germain and his friends devise a plan to attract a doctor by giving a Montreal plastic surgeon, Dr. Christopher Lewis, a warm welcome and catering to his every whim. They must make him believe he's in the best place on earth, all while managing the expectations of M. Dupré, who wants to build a plastic container factory in the town.
