Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars background

Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars

A refugee camp in West Africa becomes a hub of creativity as musicians unite, leveraging their art to boost morale and resilience amidst challenging circumstances.

Meet musicians at the Sembakounya refugee camp in Guinea, displaced by Sierra Leone's civil war. The Refugee All Stars Band, founded by Reuben and Franco, features Reuben on vocals and Franco on guitar, with both writing songs. Displaced in 1997, they thought they'd be there for a year, but years later, the band has grown with additional members. The bandmates share how music brings entertainment and a chance to momentarily forget their struggles, as seen through joyful scenes of adults and children dancing together.
