In this film, a charismatic Jewish entrepreneur, Simon Cohen, runs a successful legal cannabis shop in Amsterdam. He captivates a conservative Jewish dental student, Camiel Vrolijk, and introduces him to a life of hedonism, even taking him to Thailand to make B-movies. After Camiel betrays Simon by sleeping with his girlfriend, Simon disappears for a decade. When they reunite, Camiel is now in a committed relationship with a lawyer, Bram, while Simon is struggling with a terminal illness and a newfound sense of humility.
