The Lorrimore family teeters on the brink of financial ruin, prompting eldest son Brighton to consider marrying Edith Gilbert for her wealth. However, Brighton's true ambitions lie elsewhere, and he returns home with his new wife Phyllis, who is met with scorn from his family.

The Lorrimore family's fortunes are dwindling, and the only solution is for Brighton to marry the wealthy Edith Gilbert. However, Brighton returns from a trip with his new wife Phyllis, who is met with disdain by his family. Phyllis encourages Brighton to pursue his passion for writing, but his mother has other plans, forcing him into a high-stress job he's ill-suited for, while also manipulating Phyllis to build connections with his boss.
