A celebrated author shares his travels through thought-provoking conversations with a wide range of individuals in this 1968 documentary, co-produced by German Television.

German Television co-produced a film with us in 1968, featuring German writer Uwe Johnson. Johnson lived in Manhattan's Upper West Side for several years, getting to know the neighborhood and observing local life. Although he was introverted, Johnson contributed a list of places and situations to include in the documentary, which was narrated by him and edited by Christian Blackwood. The film, "Summer" in the City, was broadcast in Germany upon its release.
