Sundown Riders background

Sundown Riders

Initially produced for the 16mm school-and-institutional market, the 1944 film was later re-released in 35mm for theatrical showings in 1948. The story takes place in Rockford, where disgruntled residents are the central focus.

In 1944, Film Enterprises released a 16mm film about a series of murders and robberies in Rockford, which was later re-released in 35mm by Astor in 1948. The Sundowners, a trio of riders, arrive in Rockford and take jobs with a crew of line riders, unaware they're involved in a land swindle scheme. After escaping the crew's camp, they rescue a runaway girl and her father, who owns the land the outlaws are trying to steal. Joining forces with a local ranger, they pursue the outlaws, who kidnap the girl and flee to the Mexican border. The Sundowners and the ranger, aided by an Indian friend, ultimately rescue the girl and bring the outlaws to justice.
