Joaquin Murietta, a wealthy Spanish grandee's son, seeks revenge against three prospectors who killed his father and brother in a mining camp attack. He teams up with Helen Lake, who has come west to teach, and together they face off against the outlaws. Meanwhile, a mysterious bandit known as "The Black Shadow" is raiding stagecoaches carrying the outlaws' ore, and Captain Lake of the United States Army offers a reward for the bandit's capture.
