The Dance of Death background

The Dance of Death

Laurence Olivier's final stage performance features him as a brilliant yet unpredictable captain in a gripping stage adaptation of August Strindberg's timeless play.

An egocentric artillery Captain and his toxic wife wage brutal battles in their isolated island fortress off Sweden's coast in the early 20th century. On their 25th anniversary, the Captain's wife reveals the true hell of their marriage. The Captain, an aging schizophrenic in denial, fights to maintain his ferocity and arrogance. When he senses his wife and her cousin, Kurt, may conspire against him, he retaliates with extreme force. The wife manipulates Kurt into believing they share a passionate affair and enlists his help to take down the Captain.
