Eleanor Rigby, who jumped off an NYC bridge, recounts her story from her perspective, focusing on her experiences after the incident. Following her hospitalization, her sister Katy takes her to their parents' house. Eleanor enrolls in an identity theory class at NYU, where her father teaches, but leaves after discovering her unofficially ex-husband Conor is also taking the class. After Conor gets hit by a car, Eleanor stays with him until the ambulance arrives. Her father tries to persuade her to see a therapist, but she refuses.
