The Fighter background

The Fighter

A Mexican boxer seeks vengeance against those who killed his loved ones, using his prize money to arm himself and exact brutal revenge.

In 1910, during the Mexican Revolution, a young man named Felipe Rivera flees his destroyed village and crosses the border into the United States. He finds work at a printing shop that produces propaganda for the Mexican rebels and becomes a prize-fighter to support himself. As Felipe gains popularity in the boxing world, he's recruited by a promoter to fight the current champion in a winner-takes-all match. Felipe's ultimate goal is to raise $5,000 to buy weapons for the rebels, and he's driven by a desire for revenge against the Mexican Federal troops who destroyed his village and killed his family.
