Harold Lamb dreams of becoming the most popular student at Tate College, emulating the character Speedy from the movie "The College Hero". He adopts the nickname Speedy and tries to outdo the current popular student, Chet Trask, but his efforts are hindered by an upperclassman who secretly makes him look ridiculous. Despite this, Speedy uses his savings to buy popularity, but struggles to join the football team. Meanwhile, his love for Peggy, the rooming house owner's daughter, may help him find his true identity and focus on more meaningful things.
