The garment industry in New York during the 1950s is plagued by turmoil as workers demand better wages, conditions, and benefits, while factory owners fiercely resist unionization. Walter Mitchell, a garment company owner, uses mob muscle to protect his business, including murder, to eliminate union activists. When his business partner is killed in a suspicious accident, his son Alan returns from the Korean War and begins to investigate, eventually befriending a union organizer and gaining the respect of the workers.
