The Navy Lark background

The Navy Lark

A sidesplitting comedy based on a beloved BBC radio series, this film follows the misadventures of a hapless Royal Navy crew as they navigate the perils of the high seas and their own ineptitude.

The British Navy base on the English Channel Island of Boonzey, serviced by the minesweeper HMS Compton, is tasked with clearing German magnetic mines from WW2. With no mines in the local waters, the crew spends their time leisurely, with the skipper fishing, his second in command womanizing, and others smuggling booze. However, their idyllic life is disrupted when Captain Povey arrives to assess the base's usefulness and decide whether to close it.
