The Water Gipsies background

The Water Gipsies

A young woman, Jane Bell, is trapped on a rundown barge with her family, longing to escape her humble circumstances and indulge in the luxuries she's always dreamed of.

Jane Bell longs for a life like the movies, stuck on a barge with her father and sister since their mother's passing. She's courted by Fred, but has a hopeless crush on Bryan, a local artist she models and muses for. When her life takes a drastic turn, she becomes engaged to Ernest, a Communist with fixed ideals, but struggles to give up her position as Bryan's muse.
