In 1981 Spain, Lola's wedding day turns tragic when she suffers internal bleeding and loses her unborn baby, leaving her unable to conceive again. Months later, her husband convinces her to adopt a baby from a local convent, but she surprises them by choosing twin siblings Tin and Tina, who have a remarkable musical talent. However, the twins' extreme devotion to Christianity and literal interpretation of the Bible soon disrupts their peaceful family life, filling it with fear. As Lola becomes pregnant again, she becomes obsessed with the idea that Tin and Tina will put her and the baby in danger in their quest for redemption.
