As Greg navigates his senior year, he yearns to attend prom and catches the eye of the intelligent and beautiful Cinny. With his mind often elsewhere, daydreaming about his future as a poet, student, and lover, Greg struggles to focus on his college applications, much to his mother's frustration. His teacher, Mr. Shapic, attempts to guide him, but it's not until Greg asks Cinny for help with college applications that he gets close to her. However, his desire for romance and a prom date leads him to tell lies, and eventually, his web of deceit unravels, forcing him to confront his fantasies and get back to reality.
