A group of travelers from diverse backgrounds converge at Union Depot, a bustling train station. Chick, a newly released prisoner, finds a lost valise containing a shaving kit and a suit, which he uses to transform himself into a charming gentleman. He meets Ruth, a struggling showgirl, and decides to help her buy a ticket to Salt Lake City, where she has a job waiting. Meanwhile, Chick's friend Scrap Iron finds a wallet with a claim check and discovers a violin case filled with cash, but unbeknownst to him, it's counterfeit. As Chick and Ruth prepare to leave, the real counterfeiter and secret servicemen close in on them.
