Tyler "Ty" Rivers a, successful black basketball player, has a affair with Nicole Alpern, a white woman, resulting in the birth of a child. He initially denies paternity, but later demands his rights as a father after his wife, Beverly, and their two daughters. The case goes to court, with a young lawyer, Peter Marcheson, taking on the case pro bono.
