In 1996, "White Elephant" tells the story of Pooja, a teenage Indo-Canadian girl who develops a crush on Trevor, a local white boy. As she tries to connect with him, the cultural differences between their communities create a growing divide, ultimately becoming hostile. But this is not a typical tale of forbidden love, instead it's a journey of self-love and discovery.
