A wealthy plantation owner, William Hawkes, disapproves of mixed marriages and instead takes a native girl, Leilani, as his own. He brings home a society girl, Lucille, as his wife, leaving Leilani heartbroken. Lucille soon becomes bored with her husband and Hawaii, and begins an affair with a yacht owner, Chandler. When Hawkes discovers them, a fight breaks out and Lucille's attempt to save her lover leads to a devastating fire that spreads across the sugar cane fields.
