Carlos Acosta, nicknamed Yuli, was considered a son of Ogun, an African god and fighter, by his father Pedro. Growing up in impoverished Havana, Yuli learned from the streets, avoiding discipline and education. However, his father had other plans, recognizing his natural talent for dance and sending him to the National Ballet School of Cuba.
