In the midst of a mysterious murder spree, a hunchback killer known as the Fiend is terrorizing the cast of a show at the Alden theatre, using frozen bullets to strike down his victims. As the body count rises, two newspaper reporters, Jean Monroe and Frank Gordon, are on the case, accompanied by a bumbling photographer, Elmer. As they dig deeper, they uncover a web of deceit and betrayal that leads them to suspect everyone, including the star of the play, Ted Wallington, and the author of the show, Peter Fortune. But when Reardon, an actor staying at the Globe Hotel, is accused of being the Fiend, the investigation takes a surprising turn. With the truth still shrouded in mystery, Frank must continue to unravel the tangled threads to uncover the identity of the true killer.
