Lee Leslie, a fugitive, is pursued by the police, gangsters, and an insurance company eager to protect its $1,000,000 policy on him. The company hires Dan Miller to find Leslie, while a nightclub singer, Ruby Patterson, tips off the gangsters about his whereabouts. As Leslie evades capture, his sister Janet and mother are kidnapped, making his decision to surrender to the police dependent on rescuing them first.
